NatWest Community Banking Team – helping people stay connected in a digital world

NatWest’s Community Banking team in North Wales understands how technology can help keep people connected, especially older people and those living in rural Wales.

With more and more people opting to bank online and the reduction in the number of small branches, NatWest Community Bankers ensure that the bank still has a presence in local communities.

Whilst the team understands how important it is to help customers use online banking services, they also understand that they have a wider role to play in helping people get online so that they can connect with everything the internet has to offer.

Following training and support from Digital Communities Wales back in 2017, NatWest Community Bankers in North Wales signed the Digital Inclusion Charter, as a way to show their commitment to helping people get online.

Rachel Williams, NatWest Cymru Community Banker, says: “With over 650,000 customers throughout Wales, helping them engage and stay connected with us as a bank is really important to us. We run lots of face-to-face events and workshops that bring people together and help empower them on issues like scams and fraud. This is one of our big key messages and we use the events to help people understand the signs of fraud and how to use things like social media safely so they reduce the risk of becoming a victim of one.

“We want people to feel confident and comfortable in what is an ever increasing digital world. That’s why we do lots of home visits for those who can’t get to one of our events to help with things like setting-up online banking and our banking app, and even support with setting up social media or email accounts. Being there for our customers and understanding the issues that affect their lives really matters to us and is the reason why we partner with organisations like the Alzheimer’s Society for example and their Dementia Friends initiative.”
