Residents in North Wales Housing Association schemes across Abergele, Bangor, and Penmaenmawr have been enjoying a new lease of digital life thanks to a 10-week programme of face-to-face training. Delivered within the comfort of their housing schemes, the sessions have helped older residents build confidence using digital devices and accessing the internet safely. The initiative was designed to tackle digital exclusion, ensuring that everyone – regardless of age or ability – can enjoy the benefits of being online.

The weekly sessions covered a wide range of engaging topics, tailored to the interests and needs of participants. From exploring safer internet use and understanding how to get the most out of YouTube, to accessing health and wellbeing resources and taking part in reminiscence activities, the training was both practical and enjoyable. Trainers worked at a relaxed pace, allowing plenty of time for questions and one-to-one support, which helped to create a welcoming and supportive environment.

Hannah, Digital Officer for N. Wales Housing Association said “A few of our residents have faced problems with scams, and fraud, so by coming here, they have gained more confidence in surfing the internet, and using their devices”.

Feedback from residents has been overwhelmingly positive, with many saying they now feel more connected, independent, and informed. Some have started using tablets to stay in touch with family, virtually visit their old neighbourhoods and schools, and even do their own banking . This project highlights how even a small amount of targeted support can make a big difference in people’s lives – breaking down barriers to digital access and helping residents feel more empowered in the modern world.
